High-precision positioning and orientation of towed objects

When underwater operations require engineering support:

  • When you need to monitor the position and orientation of a towed object in real time;
  • When high-precision positioning of an object underwater is required;
  • For work in difficult hydrological conditions and in shallow water, where standard navigation systems are not accurate enough.

We step in when a task cannot be solved with standard methods. For example, the accuracy provided by our production navigation systems may not be enough. Or the position of the device alone is not enough information, and you need data on the position of its individual points and/or its orientation in space.

A specialized solution for non-standard tasks

As part of our engineering support, we use a specialized SBL (short baseline) navigation system built for precise positioning even in difficult conditions. The system determines the position of a towed object at a depth of up to 40 m and at a distance of up to 50 m from the towing vessel.

The navigation system consists of:

  • a transmitting unit, part of the navigation base, mounted on the towing vessel;
  • receiving units mounted on the positioned object and paired with the towing vessel.

Individual approach

Where needed, we include technical modifications to the navigation system or other devices as part of the engineering support, based on the specifics of your task: the nature of the water area, available vessels, the size of your devices, positioning accuracy requirements and so on.

Our Laboratory's engineers carry out the installation, integration and oversight of the work.

Result

We ensure the correct installation and precise calibration of the specialized navigation system, and you get all the data you need:

  • the orientation and position of various points on your object in real time;
  • the object's movement tracks;
  • various computed parameters — speed, heading and more.
