This device provides digital hydroacoustic communication between 20 users within a 1000 meter radius, using a code mode and a transparent channel mode.

Key features:

  • Minimum dimensions and weight
  • Can be applied in underwater digital acoustic sensor networks
  • Reliable data transmission with up to 78 bps
  • Up to 1000 m of operating range
  • Subscribers code division
  • Propagation time measuring
  • Highly-reliable digital hydroacoustic communication
  • Low power consumption (Rx/Tx) 0.33/6 W
  • Open configuration protocol
  • Built-in pressure/temperature sensor
  • The actual price of our device is approximately 6 times lower than its closest counterpart, costing only $480!

Here is our recent test trial of the modem in open waters of the Yuzhny Pond in the city of Volgograd, with the depth range of 2 to 1.5 meters.

The Beacon was placed on a small inflatable PVC raft and was powered by a standard portable charger:

To demonstrate all the capabilities we assembled a navigation system using two modems, the system that was built under the principle of virtual LBL has received less than one meter of discrepancy with a ground GPS:

The photo above demonstrates a section of the track, the full track is shown below:

Green lines indicate the measurement track, the points where the distance to the responder was measured. The sections where lines do not overlap are the areas where the connection was lost. The reason for that are the poor hydrological conditions.

In both cases we have received deviation from the actual position of the beacon around 70-90 cm.

This is a screenshot of control application:

The lead-battery powers the modem on the boat, its voltage as well as depth and propagation time are indicated in the upper left corner. Immersion depth of the modem is 80 cm. Water temperature according to the requesting device is 14.7 °С and 13.8 °С per responder data.

In the ongoing development of this line of devices we are planning to make:

  • Bearing antenna that operates with uWAVE (providing both the bearing and the data transmission);
  • An LBL system. The firmware for an LBL system is ready, where a uWAVE modem will act as a pinger, and its positioning would be determined by means of four small buoys.
